Project context
Stories that Stir is built around something very simple and very powerful: real people standing up and sharing the stories that shaped them. It is a different type of event, where people share from the heart in a safe space and the room listens properly. At each event, people tell raw and personal stories connected to a theme, and those stories can be funny, moving, surprising, honest or inspiring. It is really interesting to listen to, but it is also deeply moving because you can feel what it gives both the storyteller and the room. Photographing it at the Sydney Opera House made the brief even more special. I am quite a regular photographer at the Sydney Opera House now, and they have booked me on many occasions, so I understand the pace, polish and care needed when working in such an iconic venue. The venue has its own scale and significance, but the heart of the night was still the people: the speakers holding the room, the audience leaning in, the small expressions between stories and the atmosphere that builds when everyone is listening properly. My job was to document the event without getting in the way of it. I wanted the images to feel polished enough for a major venue, but still intimate enough to show what the night was really about: real people, real stories and a room full of shared attention.

Outcome
The final gallery gives Stories that Stir a set of images that shows both the scale of the event and the intimacy of the format. It captures the speakers with care, the audience with warmth and the Sydney Opera House setting without letting the venue overpower the human story. This was their flagship event, so it was important that the images looked as polished as they could be while still feeling true to the heart of the night. This one was close to my heart because it is such a great event: people are given space to share about themselves, speak from the heart and connect with the room in a really honest way. For an event built around people sharing real moments from their lives, the photography needed to hold that same balance: professional, emotionally aware and alive to the feeling in the room. It was an amazing night to photograph, and the images give the event a visual record that can help more people understand what makes Stories that Stir special.
Stories that Stir's review
I engaged Eden to photograph Stories that Stir's Sydney Opera House Showcase event and he was absolutely brilliant. I felt I could trust him completely and when I received the images back in record time, I knew my instinct to hire him had been correct. He has an incredible eye, is super professional and lovely to work with. Highly recommend!
