A sparkling 40th birthday celebration on Pittwater, where I photographed a fellow photographer's party with the speed, care and energy the night deserved.

Project context
Krystal is a professional photographer, and many of the friends she invited were photographers too. That made the brief feel personal: she needed someone outside her circle who she could trust to read the room, work quickly and make the celebration look as polished as it felt. The recommendation came through her hairdresser, who had trusted me with multiple shoots before. From the moment I arrived, the tone was set. Krystal had created a 40th that was elegant, sophisticated and completely her. She was super organised, even down to having a beautiful bow tie ready for me to wear while I photographed the party. The celebration was held on Zephyr Charters on Pittwater, so I covered the party from inside the boat, out on deck and from the air with drone photography to give the gallery a wider sense of place. The coverage needed to move from polished portraits and couple moments through to group chaos, boat-deck glamour, speeches, cake, dancing and all the in-between frames that only happen when people forget the camera is there.

The final gallery feels like the party had a pulse: elegant when it needed to be, loose when the drinks and glow sticks came out, and full of the people who made the night feel like Krystal. I delivered everything back through an online gallery within 24 hours, ready to share, print and frame while the milestone still felt fresh. For a client who knows photography from the inside, the win was a gallery that still felt surprising, generous and genuinely fun.
