Project context
Consult Australia is the association for consulting businesses in design, advisory and engineering, and I have been photographing their events for years. It is always a pleasure to work with their team. For the Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner, the brief was to capture the full experience of the evening: guests arriving and connecting, the room coming to life, speakers and performances on stage, the award presentations and the genuine moments of celebration around the tables. My approach at events like this is to move through the room quietly and make sure everyone is represented while they are relaxed and enjoying the moment. Alongside those natural photographs, the award-winner portraits are especially important. They need to be set up carefully and photographed consistently so every winner leaves with an image that they are proud to share.

The final gallery gives Consult Australia a complete visual story of the gala dinner, from the first conversations through to the awards, entertainment and celebrations at the end of the night. The candid images show people genuinely enjoying themselves, while the formal award photographs remain clean and consistent across every winner and group. That balance is what makes event photography useful: standout images that carry the atmosphere of the night, together with dependable photographs the client can send to attendees and publish across their social and communications channels. A quick turnaround meant the images could be shared while the event was still fresh, giving Consult Australia and its attendees an immediate way to celebrate the evening.
